A FUN BUSY WEEKEND

This was a fun and busy weekend for us.  The park that we used to go to in Weslaco, "Magic Valley Park".  Had their annual MVP Fun Days.  So, on Friday night we hooked up with Sharon and Casey of Loafhaven and went to the MVP dance featuring "The Cruisers", a very popular band in this area.

They play only 50s and 60s stuff, which is just what us seniors like to dance to. Sharon sent me these pictures that she took, which is a good thing because the flash on my camera wasn't working so all my pictures were ruined.  You've got to love the "mickey bottles" on the tables.  Everybody brings their own booze and mix and it sits on the table.  It makes me think of prohibition, or the night clubs that used to be in Winnipeg in the 30s and 40s.

We danced the night away and had a really great time.  We never go dancing at home, but we sure do a lot of it here.  One more reason to come to Texas.

We were very busy on Saturday, with shopping and chores, then on Sunday we went back to "Magic Valley Park", for some more of their MVP Fun Days.  This time it was their parks Amateur Variety Show.  A lot of the entertainment was amateurish and boring, but there were three high lites that I will include here.

First was three guys, busy at the urinals, as they help each other out, to light cigarettes, hold each others beers and "other things".

They had everyone in stitches.

Then there were the guys that did a take off on the "Men's Synchronized Swim Team", that went viral on uTube.

They weren't quite as good as the uTube bunch, but still very entertaining.  There is nothing quite so funny as a bunch of overweight senior men trying to pretend that they are graceful women.

Then last but certainly not least the real reason we went to this Amateur Show, was to see Doug Wheeler, the Captain of Uno Por Rio of Gimli Harbour, do his stand-up comedy routine.

He really was the best thing on the program and well worth sitting through some of the real amateurs, so that we could enjoy his routine.

That's it for now.  Later.

A TRIP INTO MEXICO

We made another run down to Mexico today.  Dan had his final fitting for his new Dentures.

So I took the opportunity to take some pictures of the Kaos that is Progresso, Mexico.  It's the little Mexican boarder town, where we go.  Everyone parks their car on the USA side of the border and walk across the bridge and up and down the main street, where the street vendors     are hawking their wares.

They even put their children to work.    I bought a junkie bracelet from this little one.  I think the only English she knew was...."A dollar lady".  "A dollar lady.  I just couldn't say no to this little one.  That's something you learn very quickly, how to say "NO"  as the sellers follow you and wave things in front of you and say "Special price just for you lady".
It's all part of the experience of a day trip to Mexico.

THE SWEETHEART DANCE

Last night was "The Sweetheart Dance"at our club house to celebrate Valentines Day. Each year they honour any couples that will be having their 50th anniversary during the year. This year we were one of those couples.  There were three couples in all at the head table. We were all married in the summer of 1962.

The music was great.  It was a band called "Swing Tyme", that played all the Big Band Era music, which is just what Dan & I love to dance to.

The Emcee had come over and interviewed us prior to the dance, and read out a bit of a "Story"of each couple, at intermission.  It was really neat with all the people coming up and congratulating us.

We danced our little hoofies off and slept in this morning.  All in all it was a good time, we really enjoyed it.

A WEEK OF CLOUD AND RAIN

It's been a terrible week of lousy weather. Rain, rain, rain. It has finally stopped but it's still cloudy and dull.

The only thing that this week has been good for is my newly pruned trees, they have new sprouts all over them.  If each of these sprouts turns into a branch these trees will be lush and full next year.  In fact I think we will thin out these new shoots before we leave at the end of March

The weather is supposed to improve on Monday and be back to the 80 degree temperatures we came here for.  I want to get back in that pool, and I want to sit out on my patio, in the sun shine.

EVERYTHING IS BLOOMING

It's the beginning of February and it's spring in Texas.  I took my camera with me on my morning walk through our park and shot these pictures.

We went for a swim lake last night, and it was still 75 degrees.  The weather here is supposed to turn cold on Sunday, but everyone will be indoors, glued to their TVs for the football game anyways.  I think I will cook a pot roast and curl up and read.  So that's it from Texas.
