IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A QUICK TRIP DOWN TO MEXICO

Yesterday, after suffering with this cough and not getting any better for over a week, we decided it was time to take a run down to Mexico and get some of the medication that was recommended to me.  So, off we went and as we pulled into the parking lot and got out of the truck to walk across the bridge, Dan realized that he had forgotten to bring our passports.  Oh Well!  So much for that idea.  Back into the truck and head back home.

With me wanting to make the best of a bad situation, convinced him to take Military Road 281 from 1015 to McAllen.  We had never gone that way, why not do some sight seeing.  Well, Dan was in no mood for sight seeing as he was kind of mad at himself and was kind of lead footing it, and as we approached a light just turning yellow, he floored it and ran the red light.  Having never travelled this route before we did not know that it seems to be the most heavily patrolled highway in the area.  And sure enough a state trooper was hot on our tail the minute we went though that intersection.  The trooper was very polite and luckily only gave him a warning, but he was very slow with his tracing of our vehicle and Dan's drivers license, so that gave Dan plenty of time to contemplate the situation.

Once the officer was finished with us and sent us on our way, we must have passed another 20 local cops, State Troopers and and Border Patrol along that highway.  We will certainly keep that in mind if we ever travel that route again.

Once we were back home we decided to have lunch, get our passports and head back down to Mexico as I had not had a miraculous cure, I still needed that medication.  This time everything went smoothly.  We walked across the bridge only had to try 2 pharmacies to find the medication I was looking for, then walked back across the bridge.  When we got to the port of entry where you show your passport there was a real back log of people, it seemed that one of the lines wasn't moving at all.  As we got closer we found out the reason.  Apparently a couple at the head of the line had come across and forgot to bring their passports and were not being allowed back into the U.S.. I guess their problems are worse than our little trials and tribulations.
