THE ANNUAL GIMLI, ICELANDIC CELEBRATIONS

In the area around the local fishing village of Gimli, and all the way up and down the western shore or Lake Winnipeg, we all look forward to the ISLENDINGADAGURINN.

It is an annual celebration of the Icelandic heritage of the area. And a grand excuse for a party.  And party we do.
Below is the year, we decorated Thunderbird as a Viking ship.

We won first prize too!

It is held every year on the first weekend in August.  It is a long weekend, and always a great weekend.

WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.

HERON IN THE HARBOUR

We have a Heron back in our harbour again.

I haven't seen one since last year.

I'm so glad to see one.  They are facinating to watch.  Their dead slow deliberate movements as they fish so intently.

This is one of the joys of living so closely with nature.  Dan got these pictures at 6:00 am this morning.

I LOVE LIVING WITH NATURE

JUST A LITTLE CRUISE AND A DIP IN THE LAKE

My Internet access has not been very consistent lately, so you will have to forgive the lack of regular posts.  So, whats up?  We have had some good weather and some bad weather, like the Internet nothing consistent.

We had a pelican cruising the harbour one morning, until Sea-Enna started barking and it soon departed.

We had a nice visit with our Grandson Blake and his girlfriend last week.  She is a very sweet girl and I am so happy for him.

At another time when the weather was nice we cruised just outside the harbour for a swim.  I have become quite fond of what is known as "Tower Beach", or "Dog Beach", just south of the water tower.

This is where we can pull in nice and close to shore (weather and winds permitting) and I can swim, wash my hair in the nice soft water of the lake, and generally relax.

Sea-Enna can run on the beach, and in and out of the water.  She loves it.

THIS IS LIFE AT THE BEACH.

THE WEEKEND TURNED OUT REALLY WELL

I got my cruise in on Saturday afternoon.

We had a lovely cruise to and through,

Gimli harbour early in the afternoon.

They were having a regatta, north of there, so we had to stay out of their way, but it was interesting.

With the strong south wind it was a little choppy on the way back, but Dan tucked in along the West shore where he soon picked up a little shelter from the beach point.

We had a lovely dinner and entertainment at Dean's retirement party at the clubhouse on Saturday night. It was a good turnout so we all got a chance to socialize with all the people that we don't see very often.

Then we had a lazy day on Sunday.  But, it rained so my Bar-B-Q turned into, my pork roast being cooked in the oven. Oh, well this weeks weather forecast sounds promising, so I'm sure there will be Bar-B-Qing.

I'M SURE WE WILL HAVE A LOT MORE FUN WEEKENDS THIS SUMMER
(If the weather will only co-operate)

LOOKING FORWARD TO A NICE WEEKEND

Most of the weather forecasts are predicting a nice sunny weekend coming up. Yahoo!   I certainly hope they are right.  I'm certainly sick of this rain we have been having.
I want two things this weekend.

1.  A nice cruise.

2.  And a Bar-B-Q.

I guess my Bar-B-Q will have to be on Sunday, as we are all going to "Dean's Retirement Dinner" at the Marina on Saturday night. But we can still go on a cruise Saturday Afternoon.

I hope the rain holds off, so I can get all this in.

I WISH EVERYONE, SUNSHINE AND GOOD TIMES THIS WEEKEND

TIME IS DRAGGING ON

The fish flies are still here, but lessening every day.  By the weekend we should be able to clean up any tell tale signs of them that are lingering.  I hope.

The weather has been warm but certainly not really sunny, which is what you would expect at this time of year.  It's not raining anymore like it did all weekend, but constant clouds.  Which makes it very muggy.  Yuck.

We are very restless.  Time is really dragging for us.  It has been a whole month since we listed our Condo for sale.  Quite a few showings but no offer yet.  I thought it would be easier with us living out here on the boat, but the process is just as, all consuming.

It's constantly on your mind.  We feel like we have thrown our life up into the air and we are waiting to see where and how the pieces will land.  We are going to have to find some distractions.

I GUESS, THIS TOO WILL PASS

(We have always lived our life with the Motto; "If it's meant to be, it will happen.  If it doesn't happen, then it wasn't meant to be". )

Thursday 7 July 2016

YUCK! THE FISH FLIES ARE BACK.

I saw some tell tale signs of them in the last couple of days, so we knew they were coming, but this morning we awoke to a full bloom of fish flies.

I opened the door this morning and there they were.  All over everything.

Each of these adults that we see everywhere, will last about 24 hours(some species females only last 5 minutes).  But the full flush can last up to a week.  And as quickly as they came, they will be gone.

Meanwhile the gulls are having a feeding frenzie.

But of course the gulls can create their own set of problems.  When they get startled and take off enmasse.

Just one more of the joys of living with mother nature.

BUT THIS TOO WILL PASS.

WE HAD A GREAT CANADA DAY

We had my niece Bonnie and her Beau Brad and my daughter Tracy Elizabeth on board the boat to celebrate Canada Day together.

We went for a nice long cruise south on Lake Winnipeg, to the mouth of the Red River, then we meandered along "South Beach" and back to the harbour.

Sea-Enna, was absolutely fascinated by Brad fishing off the back of the boat.  She had not seen that before.  "He kept throwing that thing in the water, then bringing it back????" We shared a wonderful  Roast Beef dinner and partied hardy for the rest of the evening.

And the next day we hung out in the harbour and had a Canada Day Weinny Roast and visited the day away.

ALL IN ALL A GOOD WEEKEND AND A GOOD VISIT.

HAPPY CANADA DAY!

We started our Canada Day long weekend last night at Cousin Patti's place in Matlock.

We had a little fair-well get together, as Patti is heading back to England tomorrow.  Bon Voyage and we'll see you again next year.

And this morning we dug out the Canada Flags and decorated the boat.  That's one thing about going down to Texas every year, The Americans sure show you how to "Fly your flags and be patriotic".  We Canadians can certainly learn a few things from them about being proud of our country.

So, I always go a little overboard on Canada Day.

Now we are waiting for our guests to arrive, then it's on with the celebration!

HAPPY CANADA DAY EVERYONE!
