LOOKING FORWARD TO A NICE WEEKEND

Well, here we are at Friday again. The weatherman is promising a really nice weather so it should be a cruising weekend.

Dean is promising that the Corn Roast is on for this weekend.  So, Saturday should be fun.  And our daughter Tracy Elizabeth is bringing our son Ken out for the weekend.

Well, I started this post after grocery shopping on Friday and suddenly had some unusual symptoms that had me a little worried checking into Emergency at Gimli Hospital.  They too seemed a little alarmed by the symptoms, but were unable to figure out what had caused them.  They kept me there from 3 pm until 10 pm doing all kinds of test.  Six hours of test after test and waiting around for results, Only to find that everything came back normal and I was cleared to go home to the boat.  That was not how I planned to spend my Friday.  I'm looking forward to the rest of the weekend going a little better.

THIS IS NOT EXACTLY THE POST I PLANNED FOR FRIDAY.

WHAT A MISERABLE WEEKEND THAT WAS

Well, we all know how bad the weather was this past weekend, especially around the lake.  How cottage country fared is all over the news.

Most of those winds we had over the weekend were coming mainly from the north.  And when we get those strong north winds on Lake Winnipeg, that slows all the water from flowing into the north basin and raises the water levels all around the south basin.  Therefore our marina is filled to overflowing.

The ramp that normally gets you down onto the government launch dock, is now an up ramp, and I think you would get your feet wet trying to get onto it.

Our ramp that is normally a pretty steep climb is levelled right out.  We'll enjoy that while it lasts.

You can see the high water mark, by the flotsam left behind by the receding water

This walkway was obviously under water.

This launch dock will be un-usable until the water recedes.

This government launch ramp at the other end of the marina is pretty much awash as well.  But, this will all be back to normal in a couple of days, as soon as the winds die off or switch and start coming from the south.  Which is supposed to happen today and into Wednesday.

SEA-ENNA GOES FOR A SWIM

With a Doctor's appointment and an overnight in town, the immediate chore on our return was groceries etc.  So this week we did not go out for a cruise and therefore Sea-Enna did not get a chance for a swim.

So,  after our chores were done and knowing what the weather forecaster was predicting for the weekend, we knew that this would not be a cruising weekend.  We decided to put her bathing suit on her and take Sea-Enna over to the beach for a swim.

As usual she had a ball.  She also kept everyone on the beach quite entertained.

Her joy and enthusiasm for the water are quite amusing and contagious.

THAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF HER WEEK

MY YEARLY VISIT TO MY DERMATOLOGIST

Today we took a trip into the city.  I have a Doctor's appointment tomorrow to have my skin checked.

Being a freckle faced Anglo-Saxon I am always concerned about the damage I have done over the years by too much sun exposure.  Having the cottage at the lake all those years, then moving on to this boating life-style,  and wintering in Texas all contribute to my skin damage.

I don't think the sun was as dangerous, when I got my early exposure, as a child at the lake.  No one ever told us to be careful, so I never learned to wear a hat, cover up, sit in the shade, etc., etc., etc..  Now with climate change and the thinning ozone layer, the sun is much more dangerous and I carry on with my old habits, which is certainly not a good thing, when I'm out in the sun so much.

So, once a year, I visit my Dermatologist and have her look for and deal with any abnormalities that she  finds.

JUST ONE MORE THING TO WORRY ABOUT
(It's a good thing I'm not a worrier)

THE WEEKEND WASN'T SO BUSY AFTER ALL

Even though there were activities planned for here in the marina, we started our weekend on the other side of the lake.

We had a nice visit with Dwight and Maggie, over at Grand Beach.

And Deanna and Lainie even stopped by as they are also vacationing at the beach for a week.

Then when we returned to the Marina, we were pleased to find out that we had not missed the Boat Parade and BBQ anyways, as it had been postponed to Sunday due to inclement weather.

Unfortunately, the weather really did not improve for Sunday either, so no Boat Parade and no BBQ.

OH WELL, MAYBE ANOTHER TIME.

A BUSY WEEKEND IS COMING UP

Apparently there is going to be a boat parade and then a BBQ here in the marina.  But, unfortunately we didn't hear about it until Wednesday and we had already made plans to spend the day on the other side of the lake.  As you can imagine, I'm very disappointed because everyone knows how much I love a boat parade.

We promised to go over to Grand Beach and visit Dan's brother Dwight.  We haven't been to Grand Beach in many years.  Not since we sold the cottage and moved on to this boating life.  So, it should be interesting to do some sight seeing and see how much things have changed.

I'M NOT COMPLAINING, ...BUT

Can't the weather men ever get it right?  Dan has been watching the forecasts so closely for the last couple of weeks trying to find a weather window to do a sealant treatment on our boat roof.  Every time, they would predict a couple of nice days we would make plans to work on that roof.

We got the dinghy down off the roof and he managed to get one really good day and got the whole roof sanded.  Then the rains started and it's a good thing we had a couple of good sized tarps.  But it is no fun putting them on and taking them off, which we did a few times when the forecast was for sunshine and then at the last minute they changed it to more rain.

So last Tuesday when it was so nice and I wanted to go cruising, we stayed in port and got two coats of sealant on, but we still had more to do.

Then this weekend we did not plan to work on the roof at all, as the forecast was for rain off and on on Friday and more rain on Saturday and the possibility of showers early on Sunday morning.  And here we sit with one of the nicest weekends full of sunshine.  And we got Zero accomplished.

So anyways, today, after a couple more good coats of sealant,  Dan put our rails back on, we still have more parts of the boat to seal but the roof is finished.

IT'S LOOKING GOOD

THE @!#$%&* INTERNET

Aha!!  I am finally back on line.  I have been trying for days to get on line to check my banking and do my blog.  Not that I have that much to say.

There is nothing much going on around here with all the off and on rain we have been having.  Even the steadfast regulars like Bob and Keith have given up and gone home.

I wanted to go cruising on Tuesday to watch the swimmers that crossed the lake.  That would have been great, but it was the first really nice day with no fish flies, so Dan insisted on getting the roof sealant on.  He has been trying to get this job done for a couple of weeks now and hasn't been able to get a break in the weather.

THAT NEW SEALANT SEEMS TO BE WORKING

IT'S ISLENDINGADAGURINN LONG WEEKEND

It's the August long weekend again, and our daughter Elizabeth is on board for the weekend.

We are flying our Icelandic flags in honour of Islendingadagurinn.   Normally we would be taking a little cruise to Gimli on this day, to take a look around at the Icelandic Festival, but the winds are up and it's not exactly ideal cruising weather.

So I guess we will stay in port and find other things to amuse ourselves.  We are going over to my daughter Wendy's  trailer in the campground, for dinner tonight.

MAYBE THE WINDS WILL DIE DOWN FOR TOMORROW.
