ANOTHER DANCE, ANOTHER GREAT TIME

We had another Park Dance this past weekend.  There was a good turnout and everyone that showed up had a good time.

The Musicians, "Chuck and Earl"  really got the crowd going pretty well.  But they disappointed me in the end.  The last 20 minutes, They decided to start showing off their Guitar and Drum techniques and everyone had to stop dancing, because you couldn't really dance to that.  I felt like going and telling them that they were hired for a dance, not a rock concert.   But, all in all it was a good night.

THEY'RE BACK.......!    The Party Girls of South Padre Island are back and continued their partying at out Dance.

I FINALLY GAVE IN TO AIR CONDITIONING

I hate air conditioning.  I always feel like, If I wanted to stay indoors with the doors and windows all closed I might as well have stayed up north with the furnace on.

But the other day, we knew it was going to get pretty hot, so I agreed to have it on.  Well, the whole time it was on, it cooled us down, but the fan was making a slight squeaking noise, so Dan has decided it needs work.  Now Dan ordered a new blower motor (overnight express) for our air conditioner.  The weather here in Texas is just going to get hotter and hotter, from now until we head home, so I guess it's necessary.

So, yesterday Dan and Larry installed the new blower motor and the A/C is working like a charm.  I'm sure I will be glad of it in the next few weeks.

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP LARRY

WELL, I MADE A SILLY MISTAKE

(Sorry, no photos to go with this story.)

When you are coming down here for almost 6 months, the lists that are made are endless.  What to pack?   What are the foods you can't get down here?  Is the computer cleaned up, updated and packed?  I thought we were set and everything has been going very well, that is until Friday.

On Friday we went to do some shopping at Walmart, and my bank ATM card was rejected.  Dan had to pay for my purchases.  (out of the same account I might add?)  So of course I was muttering @#$%&* stupid Walmart. I still had grocery shopping to do, so off we went to H.E.B.  I filled my cart and proceeded to the check out, only to have my bank card rejected again.  Dan again had to pay for my purchases.  So, this time I'm muttering @#$%&* stupid bank.  Now, after putting all the groceries away I got on the phone to my bank.

After a lengthy call, the girl I was speaking to could find no problem with my account and said she would have to forward my information to IT and they would call me back.  So there I sat, staring at my bank card wondering what could be wrong, when I suddenly noticed the expiry date on my card was 02/16.  dah!

If we were at home, my new card would have arrived in the mail and that would have been the first I realized that the expiry date was approaching.  But, being down in Texas, my new bank card is sitting in a huge pile of mail accumulating on my dining room table and I was not triggered to look at the approaching expiry.

Oh well, no real harm done, I have called my daughter (who has a key to our condo and  takes care of that accumulating mail) and she is going to mail my new card down to me.  I'm just glad I was able to catch her at home before she leaves on her own winter holiday.

When I get home I think I will see if we can't have the expiry dates on all out cards changed to the summer months, when we are in Canada so that this does not occur again.

ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY EVERYONE!

Oh, my gosh!  I made this blog 5 days ago, then forgot to post it.  Just discovered it now, when I am about to think about another blog.  Oh well, better late than never.  Hope you had a good one.  I did.

GO FLY A KITE!

This past weekend, even though I was quite ill, I did not want to miss the "Kite Fest" at South Padre Island.

We had seen it a couple of years ago, and now that I heard it was back, I was not going to miss it.

It certainly did not disappoint.

These are some of the large stationary kites on display.

You really can't tell from my photos, but they are huge.

And sometimes difficult to control.

But, when the wind is right, they are quite impressive.

At some points, you don't quite know where to look next.

Some really weird ones.

 And some quite artistic ones.

Then, there are the competitive kite fliers, that fly their kites in beautifully planned  routines choreographed to music.

Each one very different, showing off their talents.

Then we move into the really breath taking part of the kite show, with the team flying.

This is made up of teams of four fliers synchronizing the movement of their kites with each other.

In a planned out routine all to a specific piece of music.

 These routines are breath taking.

My pictures certainly can not do it justice,

I watch this and I keep saying, "How do they not get their kites tangled up together?"

They fly around each other like birds.

And of course they use clear almost invisible kite strings, you can hardly see them.

Still photos don't really capture it, very well, but I didn't really know how to use the video on my camera very well.

I did manage to get one small video clip of this breath taking action.  This is something I have to work on.

I got another much longer one but it is full of starts and stops and shots of the ground and my crotch then more kites then Dan's crotch as we both put the camera in our laps not realizing it was still recording.  So now I have to take a DAMNED course in video editing.  WENDY! HELP!

LET'S GO FLY A KITE!

I'VE BEEN SICK

Well, if anyone is wondering why I have not been blogging.  It is because I have been ill.  I am finally starting to get back to normal.  I have had what us winter Texans call "The Texas Crud".  Which hits very suddenly with fever and aches and when those subside you are left with extreme cold symptoms.

Fortunately, I had some "C-packs" left here from last year.  These are the Cure, which we buy down in Mexico.  It works for me every time.  From the first sign of fever on Friday night, to being up and about by Tuesday.

So now it's catch-up time.  We went to the "Kite Fest" on South Padre Island on the weekend, so next I will sort out the pictures and do a blog about it.  Stay tuned.

IT'S A SCORCHER TODAY!

I was planning on cooking a roast for Sunday Dinner today, but it is already 81 degrees and I didn't think putting the oven on today was a good idea.I thought Salad and Pasta or something similar would keep the trailer cooler and allow us to sit out for most of the day and enjoy the outdoors.

This is the weather we came here for so I'm certainly not complaining.  Then Dan had the brilliant idea of opening up Dwight's trailer and putting my roast on in there.  We could still have our roast and keep our trailer nice and cool without having to live with A/C which I hate.

So, that was what we did.

We sat out all afternoon with the pot roast cooking in Dwight's trailer.  It was a gorgeous day the high reached 89 or 90 degrees.

Sea-Enna loves it when she gets to spend the whole day outside.
