THIS WAS OUR SUMMER HOME- ABOARD

Our summer home was on our boat called "Thunderbird". She was 46-foot steel hulled, Pilot House trawler with a 471 Detroit diesel.

Our home port is Boundary Creek Marina in Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba on Lake Winnipeg.

This marina is 45 minutes north of the City of Winnipeg.

We usually launch our boat in late May or early June. Weather and projects permitting.
By boat standards our boat is large.  But, let's face it it is a boat.  We do, however, have some separated areas on our boat.  While living onboard people can get away from each other if they choose.

Our boat has a good-sized galley with a small fridge, a gas stovetop, and a convection oven.  Everything we need to cook and liveaboard.  My galley is larger than any other pleasure boat I have ever been on.

Across from the cabinetry and sink is the galley dinette, which is also large and comfortable.

This Dining area part of the Galley is viewed from the Salon.

There are hardwood floors throughout the Galley and Salon areas.  Plus the Salon has a couch that makes down into a double bed for overnight guests.  This view of the Salon is viewed from the Galley.

Then forward of the Salon is the Pilot House.
This is where the boat's custom woodworking really shines.

On entering the Pilothouse you will see a custom-built captain's seat, ships wheel, and many other built-ins.

There is a built-in Bar,
CD cabinet, and many other Storage cabinets.

There is also a beautiful "Compass Rose" inlay built into the Pilot House ceiling.

Here we also have a couch, that makes down to a double bed for more overnight guests.

Above this coach is a set of Shutters that open the whole boat up for visibility when traveling.

Just off of the Pilot House is the main "Head", or bathroom to the non-boaters.

Then down the stairs and forward of the Pilot House is the "Captain's Quarters"

with its own 2 piece en Suite Head.
Totally separated and completely private from the rest of the boat.

We usually do not pull the boat out of the water for storage until the end of September.

To find out how we spend our time in the summer, look at any of the posts from June, July, August, and September, of any year.
