DIY: CAPTAIN'S SEAT IS ALMOST DONE

We made a lot of progress on our Captain's Seat today.  The hinges were added and the doors were fitted.  Then of course they had to be removed again to add the stain and varnish.  Then we found that the trim we bought was too large so we are on the hunt for some finer trim.  The piece was cut for the seat top, that I will now take with me to the hangar this weekend and upholster it to match my Pilot House couch.  (Yes, I saved some of the fabric from when my daughter and I made the couch.)  We haven't made the backrest for the seat yet, but we will work on that after the boat is in the water.  We need to add the trim and another coat of varnish then we can re-hang the doors and it should be done for now.  I am pleased.

DIY: WORK & PLAY

I'm falling behind in my blog, as we have been so busy working out at the hangar.  Last weekend our son Ken came out with us to help Dan and we got the whole hull of the boat sanded and prepped.  I got the Tonneau cover for the fly bridge almost completed except for running out of snaps.

This weekend the hull was completed with two coats of paint and I finished the fly bridge cover and started making my back deck cushions.  I should be able to finish them next weekend.  I still have more sewing to do, (like a cover for our Dinghy, a small tarp for our back deck etc.) but most of it can be done later, as we only have one more work weekend before our launch date of June 1st.

After our work day we drove up to Gull Harbour Campground for dinner with our daughter Wendy and her husband Murray.  The weather had improved, the sun was shining the meal was wonderful.  As they say in the ads, "It was worth the trip."

WORK WEEKEND AT THE HANGAR

We took my newly acquired used  commercial sewing machine, out to the hangar and set it up this weekend so I can start sewing my canvas.

Lots of boaters prepping their boats for spring launch.

There's Bill under "Lady C", sanding her bottom.

Kevin is here for the weekend working on "Monkey Business".

And of course we have our list of chores to do to get ready for our splash date.  This weekend it is mainly engine room maintenance.  Changing oil, new fuel filters, clean the bilge, etc., etc., etc........  We still have 3 weekends to get our chores finished as we are launching on June 1st.

DELIVERY OF THE NEW TRAILER

Our Daughter Wendy and her Husband Murray, just bought a new trailer.  The had a "Jay Feather" light weight with pop outs. but with the kids getting older and bigger They needed more room and Storage.  So they sold their smaller trailer and bought a 28ft Bunk House model.  I think it's just like some of us boaters with 2 foot-itess.

Dan and I went with them because Murray has not found the right truck he wants to pull the trailer.  So, we took our truck to haul the trailer  home for them.  They are booked in at the new Provincial Campground at Winnipeg Beach for the whole summer, with their boat docked at our Marina, so we will see a lot of them during this summer.

DIY: CAPTAIN"S SEAT FOR THE BOAT

Now that we are finished with our daughters floors we are on to some of our own projects that we have planned for the boat.

This week Dan is busy building the new Captain's seat for our boat.  It will be a double wide seat, that I have designed, with a cabinet in the bottom to hold our ice maker and other storage.

Everything was going very well until we discovered we had made a mistake on one of the measurements and when we realized it, we decided it was time to call it a day.  We will start fresh and re cut that piece tomorrow.

OUR DAUGHTER'S FLOORS ARE FINISHED

Our Daughter's floors are finally all finished.  Just need all the base boards put back.

So, it’s on with the construction  of our Captain’s Seat for the boat.  We are doing that out at Jack Watt's great woodworking shop.  We want to get it finished by the end of April so we can take it out to the boat, when we start going out there every weekend throughout May.  Once out there, it will still need to be varnished and upholstered.

OUR PUPPY GETS A TRIM & A BATH

We gave our Sea-Enna her first trim yesterday.  She has had many baths and swims in her life thus far, but we have never trimmed all her "plumage".  We were going to send her to a groomer, but they all said they had to keep her for half a day.  We have never left her anywhere and we thought it would upset her to much so we got out the clippers and did it ourselves.

Now that she has had her spring bath and she smells so nice, she can get up on the bed and watch TV with Dad.  Which she loves, but  knows it's a privilege that is only allowed sometimes.  She doesn't understand this "smells nice thing".  To her all things no matter how odorous or rank "smell nice", to her.

We are off to Jack Watt's shop to work on our new Captain's seat for the boat.  That is this springs major project.  Then of course the regular maintenance, but that doesn't start until May.  We still have to finish Tracy's floors.  This weekend we start the bathroom.
