OUR MARINA'S FALL SUPPER

Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day.  The temperature got up to 27C.  A real treat for us for a September Saturday, when the norms are around 15 - 20 C.  So we all enjoyed the outdoors as much as possible.  Gathering and socializing at the Gazebo and the picnic tables.

The temperature was up, but so was the wind, so it was quite choppy out on the lake.

As it was too rough out on the lake, Dan and I decided to take a tour of the harbour in our dinghy, before we put it away for the season.

We traveled to the farthest corner of the back harbour.

Then we cruised around to the outer harbour, where there was some chop and we could feel a little spray from the harbour mouth.











We stopped in at "Loafhaven", but nobody was home.












 As we came back along the channel to the inner harbour, and it was easy to see how low the water has become.                                                



 






             

Then it was a quick turn around the inner harbour and back to our home dock and time to think about putting the dinghy away for another year.












There was a good turnout for our Fall Supper Saturday night.  The first of the turkey dinners we will all have between now and Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I love turkey dinners, but, Yuck!!  I don't want to think about Thanksgiving and Christmas yet.  I'm hoping for two more nice weather weekends before we pull the boat out of the water on Oct. 1st.

LOOKING FORWARD TO THE WEEKEND

   I am really looking forward to the weekend.  The Gimli forecast is looking good.  The wind is going to be up a bit, but nothing some of the die-hards can't handle.

I'm certainly hoping to get a cruise in this weekend as next weekend we will be watching for a weather opportunity to move the "Thunderbird"  up to Gimli.  

Our out date is booked for September 28th and we are tied up in town on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, so next weekend we hope to take our best shot, weather wise, to get the boat to Gimli so that it's sitting there ready to be pulled on Friday and we don't have to worry about getting it there.  

ANOTHER WEEKEND COME AND GONE

We had another good weekend on the boat.  We went out on Friday, which was pleasant enough weather, but chilly.  On Saturday it turned really cold and windy, so everyone was huddled on their boats, so we didn't see much of anyone.  We just stayed on board and watched movies.  But on Sunday the weather improved and we took our guests Jack & Susan Watt out for a cruise.  It was a little choppy so we cut a planned cruise to Gimli short and just cruised up and down the beach between the harbour and the tower beach point.

But, typical me, I was so busy visiting, I forgot to take pictures of our guests until we sat down to dinner and even then, I only took one and got distracted again.  (Oh, well, maybe next time)

All in all we had a good day.  The weather cooperated enough to get a cruise in for Susan and Jack.  Every time they have come out to visit, the weather has been lousy, the boat was not running or there was something else going on.  So at least this time we had a short, but successful cruise.

So, that was our weekend.  

SUMMER IS WINDING DOWN

We are going into our September routine, where we go out to the boat on Friday morning and head back to the Condo on Tuesday morning.  And we now have to pick a pull out date, which will be sometime around the end of September.

It's time to pull the car up to our dock and start packing up all the stuff we have hauled on board over the summer.

It's amazing how much stuff we need to live on board for the summer.  But, we do "Live on Board", so I guess that's to be expected.  Each weekend during September we will take more and more things home.  As the weather turns cool, I will put away the shorts and bathing suits for jeans and sweat shirts.  Some of the warm weather clothing I will pack for Texas, but I have to cut down on the amount I haul back and forth to and from Texas as well.  The goal is to have duplicates or triplicates of everything.............Like, that will ever happen.
                                                                                               


It was dull and grey on Tuesday morning after the long weekend.  It felt like a foreboding of things (or at least weather) to come.

But for now we will try to squeeze as many nice days of boating out of September as will can.  The weather looks promising for this weekend, so that's a good start.

We have to, have fun while the sun shines.

ANOTHER DAY OF LIVING ABOARD OUR BOAT

Just another one of those wonderful day, that you get when you live aboard your boat for the summer.  This afternoon, was perfect, we cruised on out of the harbour and anchored just south of Tower Beach. 

We each had a swim, had some snacks and some drinks and just bobbed out there for the afternoon.  It was perfect.  Sooo relaxing.

We certainly want to get as many of these days in as possible, before the weather turns cool. 

DIY: SEA-ENNA'S NEW RE-BOARDING LADDER

As you know we have a Golden Retriever named Sea-Enna, that loves to swim.  The first two summer, we thought we had a dud of a "water dog", as she was afraid of the water and nothing we would do could get her into the water with us.  Her third summer, when she was just over two years, she suddenly discovered swimming and took to it like an otter.  She loves to go down to the beach and run in and out of the water.  She also loves to go in the water off of the back of the boat. 

Now, off of the boat has turned into a bit of a problem, as one of us always has to be on the swim platform to lift her back out of the water when she swims back.  So to solve this problem and to let her go in and out of the water at her leisure, we devised a re-boarding ladder for her that attaches to the back of the swim platform.  Now, this has developed into another problem.  Being a typical Golden Retriever, she automatically has an aversion to anything new in her world.  (If you bring a new cardboard box into the living room, they will avoid the living room for days until they are sure that something isn't going to jump out of there and scare them. )

So, the first time we put it in the water, she just barked at it and wouldn't go near it,the whole time she was swimming.  The second time we put it in the water she avoided it again.  We did manage to get her to walk up it, a couple of times with a lot of pulling and tugging and coaxing, cajoling and luring.  We now know that the ladder does work and it holds her weight.  And because we don't want to force her and make her hate the ladder we have decided on another tactic.  So now, after water testing and a few adjustments to the styro foam etc.  The ladder is ready for use, whenever we can convince her to use it.   

So, the last couple of days we have laid it down on the dock, and blocked the dock somewhat so that she has to walk on it, if she wants to come off of the boat with us.  She also has to walk on it, if she wants to come back on board the boat with us.  Hopefully, she will get so used to that thing, that she will not even think about it after a while.  We will also keep taking it out with us when we go swimming and try to gently convince her to use it. 

 

That's the plan anyways.  We will keep you posted. 

 

 

FRESH VEGGIES MMmmmmmm

I have just finished making Cucumber and Onion Salad, Glazed Carrots, Steamed Beet Tops, and cooked and sliced some Beets.  I feel like I have been on K.P. all day and I haven't even tackled the corn yet.  (That's going to be tomorrow.)  Thanks to my friend Sharon, who keeps the whole Marina supplied with vegetables now that her garden is ready to harvest.    I was planning on having Spinach Salad with our steaks tonight, but I guess that will have to keep for another night. 

Thank goodness I've got a nice big kitchen on my boat to be able to take advantage of all of this Plenty.
